Mr. Aijaz-Ur-Rahman, M.A., M. Phil. UGC-NET JRF, (Ph.D.) Associate Professor View Profile

Mr. Aijaz-ur-Rehman took an M.A in Sociology during 1982-84 (delayed academic year). He later worked as ‘Research Officer’ at MUAVIN, Hyderabad (an NGO with social research concerns, where he was involved in preparing and publishing projects reports in health, education and livelihoods (over 1986-’87), notably one for an upcoming hospital for women and children. Another major project included a study on livelihoods and policy recommendations for occupational specialization ‘strategies’ (‘multi-sectoral plans for minorities’). He joined service on 16th January 1992 and is Assistant Professor (selection grade since 2007). He was awarded UGC-JRF/NET in 1988. Research fellow at the Dept of Sociology, O.U Dec.1991. M.Phil. in Sociology, titled ‘The Private Sector in Urban Health Care- some sociological aspects’ (submitted: 1990). (M.Phil. dissertation sought to review the nascent period of liberalization in health care reforms in India (1970s-1980s); the study also anticipated government policy shifts, and privatized health care practices.
His PhD is in progress titled The Informal Sector and its Urban Households in Hyderabad.
His areas of specialisation are ‘Sociology of Health and Medicine’, ‘Economic Sociology and Development’ and interest areas are ‘Environment and Globalization’. He has published 1 research paper in ‘Bulletin of Indian Institute of History of Medicine’ (Vol. 21, 1991) and the title is ‘Growth of Hospital in Hyderabad’ (C. 1880-C.1950) – ‘The Historical and Demographic Aspect.’

Dr. Vinita Pandey, Assistant Professor (C) has been teaching Sociology in Department of Sociology, Nizam College, Osmania University since 2003. She is M.A. in Sociology and obtained her Doctorate for her work on Crisis of Isolation and identity of Urban Middle Class Families. Her areas of research interest are Urban Sociology, Development Studies and Qualitative Research and Social Psychology. Apart from teaching at UG, PG and several Add on courses being offered by the department, she has been supervising PRA (Participatory Rural Appraisal) field research of PG students since 2003.
She also has held several administrative posts in the college including College Placement Officer; Editor, College News Letter – 2011 and 2012; Member IQAC (2012-13); Member, NAAC Steering Committee (2012); Member UG Admissions Committee; Member, Women’s Cell (since 2016), Foreign Students Welfare Officer (2013-15), UGC- Liasoning officer and Coordinator of Certificate Course in Human Relations and Personality Development. She has been the resource person for PG College of Law, Basheerbagh and PGRR Centre for Distance Education, Osmania University. Presently she is Assistant Coordinator, IQAC, Nizam College (since April, 2018)
Dr. Pandey has published six books, Co-edited and Co- compiled a practical handbook for learners entitled “Skills for Success and Quality Character” for students of Nizam College and 29 research articles in national and international journals so far. She has done two minor and two major research projects. She has written course material for AP Open School Society, Dept. of Primary Education, Govt. of A.P.; Masters in Social Work (Previous), School of Distance Learning and Continuing Education, Kakatiya University, Warangal and also material for Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University, Hyderabad.
She has coordinated several events (academic and cultural) during 120 years celebrations (20-22 February, 2008) of Nizam College. She has anchored cultural events at YUVA TARANG- 2012 (28th Inter University Youth Festival, 16th – 20th November, 2012) organized by Osmania University in collaboration with Association of Indian Universities and financed by Ministry of Youth Affairs, Govt. of India, New Delhi.
Dr. Vinita Pandey is recipient of Vidya Shiromani award, for Excellent and Commendable services in the field of Education by Citizens Council, Andhra Pradesh in September 2007. As part of her future endeavors Dr. Pandey is keen to take up research on urban issues and consolidate her efforts further in capacity building of students and youth and facilitate practical training to be more socially responsible citizens of the world.

Dr. R. Ravi Kumar has been with the Department of Sociology since 2007. He is working as Assistant Professor(c) in Nizam College (Osmania University). He teaches for both Under Graduate (B.A.) and Post Graduate (M.A.) students. He is also a Course coordinator for a Diploma course in “Criminology and Correctional Administration”. He is also a life member of Andhra Pradesh Sociological Society (APSS). More specifically, his areas of specialization of teaching and research interests cover Sociology of Education, Industrial Sociology, Development Studies, Criminology, PRA. Dr. K. Bhavani Shankar has been with the Department of Sociology, Nizam College since 2009. He did his M. Phil. on “Social Implications of Economic Reforms in Andhra Pradesh: A Sociological Study of Warangal District in Telangana Region”. His doctoral research is on “Social Implications of Economic Reforms and Globalization in Andhra Pradesh: A Sociological Study of Warangal District in Telangana Region”.
He has done (Joint Work done with Dr. Vinita Pandey and Dr. Ravi Kumar) two minor research Project on “Ambitions and Aspirations of Youth in Contemporary Society: A comparative study between Indian and Foreign students studying in Osmania University” and “Social Media and Networking: The New Age Social Communication”, funded by SAP - DSA, Phase –I & II (UGC), Department of Sociology, Osmania University, Hyderabad (2010).
He is Course Coordinator for Diploma course in “Development Management Studies and Development Research Methodologies” and also Coordinator for “Cell for the Differently Abled”, Nizam College.
He is co-Author for Book entitled “Gender Sensitization”, Professional Books Publisher, Hyderabad, 2017. He is Editor-Cum-Writer for Sociology Study Material for Senior Secondary (Intermediate) Course being offered by Andhra Pradesh State Open School, Hyderabad. He is also the co-Editor, for the book entitled Environment Degradation and sustainable Development. He has written lesson for both UG and PG programmes being offered by SDLCE, Kakatiya University, Warangal, Dr. BRAOU, Hyderabad and PGRRCDE, Osmania University, Hyderabad.
He has published several research papers in national and international journals. His areas of interest are Development Studies, Industrial Sociology and Research Methodology.

Dr. Bhanumati Shastry is a faculty in the Department of Sociology, Nizam College. With teaching experience of 30 years, She is M.Phil, Ph.D. in Sociology. Her M.Phil. thesis is on “Adult education programmes and changing behavioral patterns at Jadcherla block in Mahaboobnagar district”. The PhD thesis is on “socio-economic impact of industrialization on rural areas: a study of Sirpur paper mills, Sirpur Kaghaznagar, Adilabad district, Andhra Pradesh”
Before coming into teaching profession she worked for two years as social welfare assistant I.D.L Chemicals an explosive industry In Hyderabad. The main focus of thesis is on rural industrialization. Her industrial work experience and the major interaction with many top officials in different industries motivated her to focus on rural industrialization.
She was associated with Vanita Mahavidyalaya for a long time. Teaching new papers and new courses is always an excitement and challenge also.
Since she has resided for long in the townships adjacent to forest and rural areas of Telangana, she observed there are many natural resources available to establish industries like cement and paper. Many private industrialists established such industries and facilitated rural industrialization. This has definitely helped in resolving the major social problem of unemployment. Rural industrialization also has facilitated in bringing massive social change. Thus her area of interest is rural industrialization.
Music is her passion. She is a Carnatic classical singer, light music singer and also plays Veena. Reading different religious books and quoting it her classes is her way of teaching.

Dr. Deekonda Thirupathi is with Department of Sociology, Nizam College since 2012. Earlier he was with Department of Sociology, University College of Arts and Social Sciences, Osmania University from 2009.He was awarded Ph.D. in 2012 for his dissertation ‘Origin, Ideology and Empowerment of Weaker Sections- A Study of BSP in Uttar Pradesh’. He teaches both UG and PG courses. He has PRA fieldwork experience since 2007. He is visiting faculty at Centre for Distance Education, Osmania University. He has also worked as Research Investigator, Department of Sociology for six months in 2006. He was also a Project Fellow at ASIHSS, Department of Sociology for four years from 2006 to 2011. His administrative experience includes A Hostel Mess Warden (2012-13), N.R.S.H. Mess Warden since 2013. He was Member, Cultural committee, University College of Arts and Social Sciences for 2012-13. He has presented about ten research papers in various national and international conferences. He has published five research papers in various journals. He is life member of Andhra Pradesh Sociological Society, Indian Sociological Society. He has attended 12 Research Methodology workshops and two International seminars and six national seminars. Dr. Thirupathi is recipient of Dr. Ambedkar Fellowship Award- 2008 by Bhartiya Dalit Sahitya Academy, New Delhi during National Conference of Dalit Writers on 13th -14th December, 2008

Prior to this she worked in Kasturba Degree and PG College for Women, West Marredpally, Secunderabad as lecturer and head of department of sociology.
