PHYSICS

Department Of Physics

The Department of Physics, Nizam College has a glorious history of more than 100 years, even before its commencement in the main campus of Osmania University. It was established in the year 1895. The Department had only B.Sc. teaching programme up to 1947, when Nizam College was affiliated to Madras University. The very next year to the platinum jubilee of Nizam College i.e., 1966, the post graduation course in Physics was introduced under the leadership of Prof. P.G. Puranik, who was the Principal of Nizam College. Electronics was the only special subject in the final year of M.Sc. Subsequently, the Department has been offering Biophysics specialization from the year 1971. Currently the intake is 45 for M.Sc., with two specializations.

The department of Physics has a fully furnished library with more than 3000 books and internet facility to students. Books are being updated every year according to the changing syllabus and are accessible to all the PG and UG students. The Department is fully equipped with laboratory facilities for students and research scholars with a special research room. We have 13 Labs for U.G. and P.G. students and two Computer Labs with AC facilities. This is DST-FIST sponsored Department. The department has been organizing various activities like student seminars, quiz competitions, science day celebrations and related activities. We take students for educational visits and also carry student projects at M. Sc. level for dissertation.

The department has organized national and international seminars and also several guest and extension lectures with faculty from different organizations and countries.
