MATHEMATICS

The Department of Mathematics is one of the oldest depart-ments of Nizam College(A), OU and was established since its inception. It has well qualified and experienced faculties with a vision to promote mathematics in every walk of life as it is an essential part to develop analytical and logical skills which are imperative, to master the skills required to solve the problems of everyday or research oriented. The department offers Mathematics course for B.Sc. Students with Mathematics as one of the core subject along with Physics, Chemistry, Electronics, Computer Science, Statistics, Computer Hardware and Data Science.

To cater the needs of the students with non Mathematics background, the department also offers Generic Elective course “Basic Mathematics” to create the skills required to learn the concepts of Mathematics in an easy and effective way.

In addition to this the department also offers Reasoning and Aptitude to the BBA final year students as a skill Enhancement course to give them an edge to face the challenges of the competitive exams.

Department also supports the other departments requirement by allotting the faculty to teach the Mathematics subjects as per their Curriculum.

In the year 2021, the department has introduced a new course B.Sc., Data Science as it is in high demand now-a- days with an intake of 60 students. The department aims at strengthening the roots in the field of Mathematics and nurture the young students to become future Mathematicians.

The Department of Statistics was established independently in the year 1992-1993. Previously it was a part of Department of Mathematics. The course offered currently is B.Sc., (Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science) and B.Sc., (Mathematics, Statistics and Data Science) which is a job oriented and having a good demand. B.Sc., (Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science) course was introduced in the year 1998 under Self Financing scheme. The course structure deals with areas like Correlation, Regression analysis, Operations Research, Probability and distribution theory, design of experiments, sampling and demand analysis along with practical applications in many fields.

The Department of Statistics is merged in Department of Mathematics and renamed as Mathematics & Statistics from 05.01.2024 onwards.
