The Department of Zoology, Nizam College is as old as the College itself, being one of the first departments of sciences at undergraduate level. The department has been handling Zoology for B.Sc. at undergraduate level since the days of its inception. The conferment of autonomy to the college in 1988-89 provided the academic freedom to the Department to frame its own syllabus in the ratio of 80% the University/ State Government syllabus and 20% from the national curriculum. Review of the syllabi for undergraduate courses is a continuous process and the Board of Study constituted by the department is the supervising and ratifying body that meets annually/bi-annually for the purpose. The college has also adopted the semester system of teaching and evaluation at undergraduate level. The department offers post graduate (PG) courses with a specialization in Comparative Animal Physiology since its inception. In 2004, the PG course from Saifabad PG Science College (OU) merged with department following which the department the department has been offering PG course for two batches. In 2004, M.Sc (Fisheries) was offered. From 2005 the department has been offering specializations in Entomology (Agricultural Entomology and Medical Entomology) and Phytonematology. The course offered has gained tremendous importance as the enables the students to keep pace with present changing trends where whole scientific world is focusing on the sustainable agricultural development, emergence/re emergence of many dreadful disease and their control measures, The department has been handling Biology Classes and also Environmental studies for Five Year integrated M.Sc. course in Chemistry. Some of the faculty members are resource persons for Pharmacochemistry course.
Department of Zoology, Nizam College is one of the biggest departments with 19 faculty members. It constitutes a well qualified faculty (2 Professors, 4 Assistant professors, 12 Assistant professors Contract and one part-time lecturer) who constantly strive for academic excellence and dissemination of knowledge to its student community. The faculty is active in its research endeavors, and are resource persons in conducting orientation programmes, refresher courses held by Academic staff college O.U. for other affiliated college teachers. Some of them had a stint of post doctoral research experience. The faculty organizes and participates in national and international seminars on a regular basis. Guest lectures are conducted regularly with an aim to expose the students to latest trends in various research fields. This also serves as a forum to all science faculty and students and also science lovers from other departments to gain an understand of the latest happenings in the field of science. The department has a computer lab with 15 systems connected to a central server. The students drop out is almost nil, apart from the 3-5 % of PG students who discontinue this course to join other courses like B.Ed. These students rejoin the master's course after completing the B.Ed course. 70% of Undergraduate students opt for higher studies in various reputed institutions like Central Universities, Osmania University, and other state universities. The success rate is 95%; Dropout rate: 2- 5% in B.Sc 1st year.
Many students are qualified in national level exams like NET, SLET, GATE etc.

I am Dr. Apka. Nageswara Rao working as a Assistant Professor, Department of zoology at Nizam College. I have completed Ph.D. in Kakatiya University campus my research entitle is "Ecological studies of termites (Insecta-Isoptera) Bhadrachalam forest region". Post Graduate from Kakatiya University Campus, and bachelor's degree in Bhadrachalam Govt degree college as well as bachelor degree Education (B.Ed) from Kakatiya University Campus. I have been teaching UG & PG for Ten years with passion, enthusiasm, inspiration, dedication and with professional life skills. Motivate and inspire students, while creating a learner-centered and challenging learning environment. I have keen interest in attending national, international seminars and workshops and have several publications in international journals. As a part of Biodiversity club we conducted awareness programmes for students and faculty, Nizam Collage. Played active role as a member of the organizing committee in the national seminar organized by the Department of Zoology. He has been mentoring her UG and PG students to instill in them a kind of confidence to pursue active and live internships and to continue their efforts to pursue their doctoral studies. He is Life member in several academic bodies and assistant editor in International Journal of Zoology Studies.
Dr B Jyothi is working as Assistant Professor in Department of Zoology, Nizam College. She has 20 years of teaching and 15 years of research experience. Her broad area of research is environmental pollution and Toxicology, Physiology and Bio-accumulation, Bio-Remediation and Biodiversity. She participated in 40 National / International Seminars/conferences and Workshops. Presented several research articles and was awarded Young Scientist with Gold Medal for presenting a paper in a Conference organized by National Environmental Science Academy. She organized a Two Day National Conference on Emerging Challenges and Innovative Strategies in Fresh Water Ecology, Biodiversity and Applied Toxicology at Nizam College during 2014. She has been a Resource Person for workshops conducted by Jana Vigyana Vedika , Rajiv Vidya Mission(AP) during 2012 and 2015. She is pursuing a UGC-BSR Start-up Grant Research Project in the area of Environmental Toxicology. She is guiding four PG students in Research Projects as part of MSc curriculum. She published several research articles in National and International Journals.
Dr. Muttineni Radha Krishna is currently Assistant Professor in the Department of Zoology, Nizam College, Osmania University. Dr.Radhakrishna, earned his M.Sc. Zoology and Ph.D in HIV Biology from Kakatiya University. He did his Dr. Kothari Post Doctoral Fellowship from Department of Biotechnology, Hyderabad Central University on HIV Long term non progressor. He also awarded Raman international Post Doctoral Fellowship in USA and developed Indian HIV vaccine at Yerkes National Primate Research Centre EMORY University, Atlanta, USA. He trained in the area of Emerging Viruses at Colombia University Newyork, USA. He completed 2 research projects UGC-MRP, BSR from Indian Government. He published 13 research papers in various National and International Journals with high impact factor (IJMR-2.6, Retro virology 5.6) His expertise in field of Virology and research interest HIV vaccine Development, Emerging Viruses and Therapeutic Monoclonal Antibodies.
Dr. S.Anitha Kumari is working as Asst. Professor in the Department of Zoology, Nizam College. She has a good Academic record completing her B.Sc, M.Sc and Ph.D from Osmania University. She has 24 years of Teaching experience taking classes for both undergraduate and post graduate students and more than 20 years of Research experience. Her area of Research is Environmental Biology,Toxicology,Immunology, Environmental Biotechnology, Human genetics, Population genetics and Nanotoxicology.She has published several papers in both National and International journals and also presented papers(poster and oral) in National and International seminars/symposia/conferences etc.She has attended several workshops and training programs.She has published 3 books. She is also a member of many scientific bodies. Being an active Researcher,she was awarded fellow of Indian Association of Aquatic Biologists and elected as Associate fellow of A.P.Academi(Presently Telangana Academi)of sciences.
Assistant Professor(C) in Zoology teaching for both UG and PG students having a total of 9 years of experience and Researcher with good experience in Entomology, Technical expertise in the Culturing and Maintenance of insects, Enthusiastic with strong interpersonal, good analytical skills and commitment towards goal with a sense of urgency. Pursuing Research work since 2006 in the Division of Entomology, Department of Zoology, Osmania University, Hyderabad, India.
Dr. Vasudha Lingampally received her Master's degree and B.Ed. from Osmania University, Hyderabad. She was awarded Ph.D. in Zoology by Osmania University for her work on Tribolium confusum. She has published research articles in International and National journals. She presented a paper at COPXI in a UNESCO Workshop on "Bioethics, Biodiversity and Making a Repository of Ethical World views of Nature". Her core research areas are Entomology, Environmental Biology and Toxicology
"Dr. Sridhar working as an Assistant Professor in the department of Zoology, Nizam College , Osmania University and he got his master's degree in the year 2007 with the specialization of Applied Neurobiology in Dept.of Zoology, University College of science, Osmania University and completed Ph.D degree in Dept.of Zoology, University College of Science, Osmania University on Diabetic cataract and his thesis title was "Influence of some bioactive compounds from marine sponges and flavonoids as Indoleamine 2, 3-dioxigenase (IDO) inhibitors with reference to cataract". And worked in Center for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) as Post-Doctoral Fellow in National facility for transgenic mice laboratory. The focus of his research work is Cloning, over expression and purification of recombinant human indoleamine 2, 3-dioxigenase (rhIDO) and screening of natural inhibitors form marine sponges and presently working on expression, post translation modifications of Kinases in different metabolic tissues with reference to age.
Joined as Asst Prof (c) in Department of Zoology at Nizam College in the year 2021 on September 9th . She pursued her post graduation in Zoology from Osmania University College for Women’s, Koti. O.U, Hyderabad. With Endocrinology as her specialization. Submitted her dissertation for award of Doctoral Degree in Department of Zoology Osmania University in year 2021 in the field of Applied Toxicology. She has published Few Scientific papers in both International and National Journals.
Dr. T. Giri Prasad doing his job as an Assistant Professor (PTL) in the department of Zoology, Nizam College (OU), Hyderabad (TS) and he got his master's degree in the year 2009 from Nagarjuna Government College, UG and PG at Nalgonda, with the specialization of Comparative Animal Physiology and awarded with Doctorate (Ph.D) degree in Dept. of Zoology, University College of Science, Osmania University for completed his research work and submitterd the thesis titled "In-Vitro Studies on Vitex Negundo L. leaf Extracts Against Cancer Cell Lines with Reference to In-Silico Studies". He got the National Fellowship "UGC-BSR-RFSMS" for 5 years from 2013-2018(2yrs JRF + 3 yrs SRF) during his Ph.D tenure. He was qualified State Eligibility Test (SET-2012) and Teacher Eligibility Test (TET-2011). He has been working as a faculty in this institution with having about 10 years of teaching experience as a teacher served at various Private and Government Colleges in Telangana.
Dr.R.Jagadeshwarlu is working as an Assistant Professor (Part- Time) in Nizam College. I have completed my Doctoral degrees in 2018 from department of zoology, Osmania University under the guidance of Dr. G. Sunitha Devi. I have 10 years of teaching experience, 6 years of research experience and I have 8 research publications in various peer reviewed journals and UGC recognized journals.
Dr.U.Muthyalu is working as Assistant Professor(PT) at Nizam College, Osmania University, Hyderabad.He has obtained M.Sc., B.Ed. and Ph.D. degrees from the Osmania University. His specialization in M.Sc. (2006) is Endocrinology and in Ph.D. (2018) is Entomology Division from University College of Science, OU as Junior Research Fellow (2012 – 2015) and Senior Research Fellow (2015 – 2017) from UGC – BSR (RFSM - Research Fellowship in Science for Meritorious Students), New Delhi. Research Title "Bioefficacy of selected Biorational Insecticides & Development of feasible IPM Modules on Pests of different BT Cotton Hybrids". Dr.U.Muthyalu joined in the Department of Zoology in 2006 and has 12 years of teaching, with Research and Academic administrative experience. Dr.U.Muthyalu having worked at all the affiliated colleges, YPR Degree College (June 01, 2006 to March 31, 2011) - Siddipet., SRK Degree & PG College (June 01, 2011 to December, 2011) - Siddipet., PMR Degree & PG College - (January 02, 2018 to June 30, 2018) - Mall., Noble Degree & PG College (July 16, 2018 to June 30, 2021) - Dilsukhnagar.
I, DR. PANDARI REDDY PALLE, as an Assistant professor part time in Department of Zoology, Nizam College, Osmania University. He has completed master of science (M.Sc) in zoology, bacholar of education (B.Ed) in biological science and doctor of philosophy in zoology (Ph.D) from osmania university. He has more than 8 years of teaching, 6 more years of research experience. My specialization in fisheries and area of research on animal physiology, haemotology and histology, toxicology,etc. He has 10 research papers were published in peer reviewed and UGC-Approved journal list-2019 before journals. Attended,participated,presented research finiding in 25 national,international,seminor,conferences,workshops,symposium,training programmes in the respective research field. He was joined on the date 23-02-2022 in the department of zoology, nizam college, he was selected through proper channel as per UGC-2019 Assistant professor rules and regulations for guest/part-time teachers. He was exemption to NET and SET.Osmania University was conducted at the first time Ph.D Entrance test-2009 and common entrance test-2022 for osmania unversity part-time teachers. My greatest strength is my ability to cultivate and sustain good working relationships with all members of the college fraternity. In addition, I posses the ability to establish a good rapport with students as well as ensuring that they releive the right guedance and motivation so as to succeed.
Dr. M. Siddaiah working as an Assistant Professor (PT) in the Department of Zoology, Nizam College, Osmania University, Hyderabad. He has completed his Doctoral degree (area of research: Medical Entomology-mosquito) in the year 2022 from the Department of Zoology, UCS, Osmania university, Hyderabad and got master’s degree from the same department in the year 2014 with the specialization of Entomology. He has 07 years of teaching and research experience and published 5 research articles in various national and international journals. Awards & Prizes Young Scientist award has been given by the Society of Medical Arthropodology (SOMA)-2018, Hyderabad Fellow of Soma(FSOMA)-2018, Dehradun Tyagi Prize for the year of 2019, ZSI Kolkata
Dr. R . Shyamsundar working as an Assistant Professor (PT) in the Department of Zoology, Nizam College, Osmania University, Hyderabad. He has completed his Doctoral degree in Wildlife Biology and Taxonomy lab in the year 2018 from the Department of Zoology, UCS, Osmania university, Hyderabad and got master’s degree from Viveka vardhini college Koti, Hyderabad in the year 2006 with the specialization of fisheries. He has 13 years of teaching and 05 years of research experience and published 03 research articles in various national and international journals. He trained in capturing identification in vertebrate organisms such as fishes, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. He attended two national conferences.
